Kick started an enduring interest in military history

One from the childhood library vault and the book which for me, kick started an enduring interest in military history. The book in question is The Finding Out Book of Battles, published by Purnell in the late ‘60’s and written by Major-General G. Surtees C.B, C.B.E., M.C, no less!

What I still love most about this book are the wonderfully atmospheric colour illustrations by Ron Embleton, who also illustrated for the weekly educational magazine for kids, Look and Learn and later for Osprey Publishing’s Men-at-Arms series.
